On my first listen, I honestly was like “meh”. But I couldn’t stop thinking about it. So I sat back down and registered to this record. The production isn’t necessarily the greatest. But that’s okay. I feel for the style of music they play, a gritty/underproduced sound is something that fits well. I actually like the overall sound of this record a lot. Its straight fucking brutality. What stands out the most to me, its the simplistic writing. Not every BDM needs a fuck ton of blast beats and fast riffs. They keep it low and mostly slow.
The mix is kid of my only issue. The drums tend to get lost sometimes behind the vocals and guitar riffs. Not all the time. But mostly during the constant chugging on guitars. I would have loved to hear the drums up just a notch, that’s all.
The flow is probably some of the best I’ve heard in the genre. The simplistic writing style is definitely a contributing factor. Because of this writing style, its also full of groove. I found my self constantly bobbing my head while writing this. The narrative and theme is definitely something common in the genre, post-apocalyptic death. But its from our own doing. Lets be honest, this probably how humanity will die anyway.
There is definite replay value in the record. It has all the elements of your favorite BDM bands. So this definitely will find a home in your rotation. Now I also had no idea this band existed. So of course I had to check out their previous material. I noticed a couple changed from their last record ( In The Face Of…). Most noticeably is the overall mix. The snare POPS in the last record. Which is very common in the genre, so I don’t mind it too much. The snare in Fate does have that PING like previous material. It just sounds a little tighter. The mix in general is definitely a little more produced on Fate. Even though its Brutal Death Metal, I personally still wanna be able to define the different notes and instruments.
Comatose Music was smart adding Gorevent to their roster. This record is what I personally believe to be a top record in the Brutal Death Metal Genre. Its got simple but yet groovy riffs that are guaranteed to make you want to smash face. The vocals sound like my toilet bowl flushing. I’m a sucker for some well done toilet bowl vocals. Fate by Gorevent will definitely open more peoples ears and destroy the BDM scene.
