Hailing all the way from Switzerland, Hellvetica are here to show you metal can be fun. Ive never heard of this band so when it was sent to me, I decided to check it out.
The production on the record isn’t too bad. The only problem I have is I feel the vocals are mixed too low. The vocals are kind of high pitched as it is, but they could have been mixed just a little louder. I feel like their shining element, is you can tell they are literally just having fun. It’s a serious band, but what is the point if you cant have a little fun?
The song structures are pretty solid. They have some super solid fast riffs. Also, there are some heavy chugging riffs. It’s definitely enough to get the audience member to move their head. The narrative/theme I got, was party. Without getting to repetitive, I can tell this band is here to make sure everyone has a good time, no matter what they are doing.
Compared to their last record, I feel like ‘Against the odds’ is definitely less serious, while being serious at the same time. The instruments have gotten a little faster and a little more technical. While the lyrical content has gotten a little less serious. My favorite part is definitely the energy you can feel from the music. My least favorite has to be the way the vocals were mixed. Now if I throw my iTunes on shuffle, would I skip the song? No, but it’s also not my first pick of stuff to listen to.
Overall, it’s a decent record. It’s not really my thing, but I can see where someone who doesn’t want to listen to super heavy metal, would like it. If they played anywhere near me in America, I’d go see them. The live performance could change my opinion on them. I’d recommend this band to someone who likes metal, but doesn’t want to dive into the heavy.
