The production on this record is fucking jaw dropping. Like, every little thing is perfect. From the way its mixed, to the way the tracks are arranged. Its absolutely perfect. What sticks out to me, is they definitely have a deathcore influence. But they take it a notch lower in tuning and mix in some death metal. Its a perfect blend. The mix is stunning. Who ever mixed this knew exactly what the band wanted, and fucking nailed it. I don’t swear much in my reviews, but you after listening to this record, you’ll see why I am. Holy shit.
The songs flow very well. They have some groovy djenty parts followed by the absolute heaviest breakdowns I’ve ever heard. Im not sure of the narrative on this one. But what I feel is the overwhelming sense of dread, or being swallowed whole by death himself. dictionary.com defines Abyssal as follows: of or like an abyss; immeasurable; unfathomable. of or relating to the biogeographic zone of the ocean bottom between the bathyal and hadal zones: from depths of approximately 13,000 to 21,000 feet (4000 to 6500 meters). So I can only imagine that what I feel, is close to right.
This record has been played over 30 times since I received it. I love this record. Im sure the lyrical content fits along with my theme prediction. Just an overwhelming sense of misery and dread. I mean in one of the atmospheric parts, they literally sing ‘Rejoice in Misery’. My favorite part is definitely their blend of djenty grooves and death metal riffs. The breakdowns layered with gnarly gutterals create a listening experience that I feel most people aren’t ready for. I feel that compared to their last effort (Detestor), this record is more well arranged. It has some atmospheric additions that really help paint a mental picture.
Overall, im blown the fuck away. Its such a well put together record. I have been this impressed in a while. Humanity’s Last Breath does a fantastic job blending the groove of djent, and mixing it with the sheer brutality of death metal/deathcore. The atmospheric ambiance behind the tracks definitely help create a unique listening expierence. Ive heard of the band prior to this. But never really listened to them. Why? Who the fuck knows. All I know is that there is literally Nothing wrong with this album. It is literals the most Jaw dropping album for me this year. Buy this record. Now.
