For being an independent release, the production behind this record is pretty great. You can hear every aspect of each instrument. Yes, you can even hear the bass at times. Right from the very beginning, this album is unrelenting. I believe their shining element here, is how they can keep up the ferocity all through out the record. It’s pure anger and evil, through and through. The mix is great as well. As this is my first time ever hearing the band, I’m impressed.
The song structures are like typical death metal. They are fast, in your face, and very technical. I don’t really notice anything like Set chorus’s, or verses. They basically do what ever they want. They just arrange things in such a way that its got me hooked. Scanning through their lyrics, I get a sense that it has to do with religion and mankind in general. Almost along the lines of how religion doomed man kind. I personally cant understand the lyrics, but that’s okay.
I will definitely be listening to this album more. It’s one of the most unrelenting albums I’ve heard this year. Everything about it is great. My favorite part is easily how they have an old school sound to them. The tones of the guitars, remind me of early Cannibal Corpse. The only thing I’d love to see them improve on is the high screaming. It does fit their music and style. I personally think if the vocalist worked on his technique just a wee bit, this band would be a driving force in underground death metal.
Overall, ‘Alif’ by Lelahell is definitely a fantastic album. It has just about everything you could want in a death metal album. Blast beats, Technical down tuned guitars, and vocals that sound like he is in pain. What more could you ask for? This record has me hooked. I definitely look forward to this bands future endeavors.
