Straight out of the swamps of New Orleans, Louisiana, Raise The Death Toll raise the bar with their heavy hitting debut ‘Penthouse Of A Thousand Corpses’.

On the very first listen of a single a while back, forgot which one, I wasn’t a huge fan. But I decided to keep listening, and see if my mind changed. BOY LET ME TELL YOU, it definitely did. You can tell its not a high quality super pristine recording. I can hear a little grittyness in some of it. But it’s a debut, you cant expect much. But for what its worth, I think the gritty tones add to their concept of the record. It added the evil undertones and really sets the mood. I think the shining element is how they can take somewhat simple riffs/beats, but make them some of the heaviest sounding things you’ll ever hear.

The song structures are also very simple. They aren’t super flashy. But towards the end of a couple songs, are probably some of the heaviest breakdowns I’ve heard in a long time. They all flowed super well, no super drastic tempo changes. There is nothing too hard to follow on this record.

The theme throughout this album has to do with horror movies/horror related things. Once I found that out, it definitely appealed to me. I’m a fan of horror movies, even though I haven’t seen a good one in a long time. There is definitely a lot of replay value here. It’s super heavy, super evil, and very angry. If you are a fan of any music that fits those requirements, you are in luck.

Like I said before, it took me a bit to fully respect this band. But after a few listens, I totally back this band 100%. It’s definitely one of my favorite releases of the year. I totally look forward to what they have planned in the future. Hopefully they bring their horror(ble) music to Chicago (see what I did there).
